Exclusive Interview: Jim Rash, Eve Lindley, Dot-Marie Jones, and Nicholas Stoller of Bros

9/29/2022 • 3 min read

BROS is a sweet and funny story about Bobby Leiber (Billy Eichner), a gay writer, podcaster and comedian, who insists there's no place in his life for a relationship. Things change when he meets buff lawyer Aaron (Luke Macfarlane). As their relationship develops, both men have to confront how their attitudes towards life and love have been shaped by uncertainties and insecurities.

We talked to BROS director Nicholas Stoller (NEIGHBORS) and co-stars Jim Rash, Eve Lindley, Dot-Marie Jones to learn about the creation and comedy of BROS.

Explaining the casting of the movie, Stoller said, "We knew early on that we wanted to cast a gay actor to play opposite Billy, so we cast Luke. Then we were like, 'let's cast an entirely LGBTQ cast.' We did that for a few reasons. It seemed like the right thing to do um given the subject matter. But also, there's a joke in the movie about straight people playing gay parts. For that joke to work, it'd be strange if they're a bunch of straight actors playing gay parts."

He also explained that "for me the secret weapon of any comedy is the funny person you've never seen before. So if you think about Melissa McCarthy and bridesmaids, that's someone people hadn't seen in that capacity. So I knew that if we did this it would take us a bit longer maybe to find the right people but that we would find people you'd never seen before and who are funny in new and exciting ways."
