Tom Holland is swinging back into action as Marvel's Spider-Man. The fourth movie in Marvel's Spidey series now has a title. What we had been calling SPIDER-MAN 4 is officially called SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY. Filming begins soon for a 2026 release.

While we don't know very much about the movie at this point, and it is increasingly difficult to separate fact from rumor, we can tell you a few things. Here's everything you need to know about SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Opens in Summer 2026

Marvel Studios will release SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY in movie theaters on July 31, 2026. Returning star Tom Holland confirmed that it will film in Summer 2025.

Will Spider-Man 4 Be Part of the Next Avengers Story?

Since we know that SPIDER-MAN 4 will come to movie theaters a couple of months after the release of AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, we wonder even more about whether or not that big Avengers story will affect the main plot of SPIDER-MAN 4.

The Spider-Man movies have often been immediate reflections of what happens in other major Marvel movies. (Since the MCU is pretty tightly connected, all the movies reflect one another to some extent, yes, but the Spider-Man movies, being primary tentpoles for Marvel, do so to a greater degree.) HOMECOMING reflected developments from CIVIL WAR and FAR FROM HOME reflected the events of ENDGAME, while NO WAY HOME was a summation of all the live-action Spider-Man movies to date.

In a way, it would be nice to have a ground-level Spider-Man movie that isn't deeply connected to anything else. The setup is there, since NO WAY HOME ended with the world forgetting about Spider-Man — including the people closest to Peter. It's a chance to start over. We just don't know how this film will put that into action.

Will Spider-Man Appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars?

This is another huge question, and right now we don't know. Tom Holland is rumored to be set to film a part for DOOMSDAY, but this has not been confirmed. In fact, Holland seems to be among the few people who knew that Robert Downey, Jr. would return to Marvel. "I've been speaking to [Downey] a lot," Holland said, "especially about him making his MCU return, which is super exciting. That was a tough secret to sit on because I have a reputation for ruining things, and I strategically have done no press."

The Webhead has been a big part of Marvel's team-up movies for a while now, so it would be somewhat surprising if he's not in at least one of the two Avengers movies. And since SECRET WARS is the story in which Spider-Man got his black costume in comic books — setting up the introduction of Venom — it's easy to assume that Tom Holland will be an important part of the two-part Avengers story.

Is Brand New Day Based on Any Comic Book Storyline?

There is a Spider-Man comic book story arc called "Brand New Day," from 2008. It followed the comic book version of "Civil War," and features some story elements that are also part of the current movies. In both, Peter Parker's secret identity has been exposed, and in both, that knowledge is wiped away, along with many of Peter's closest personal relationships.

But that may be where the similarities between comic book and movie storylines end.

The Shang-Chi Filmmaker Is Directing Spider-Man 4

The biggest news about SPIDER-MAN 4 is that Destin Daniel Cretton will direct. He made SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS for Marvel and has been developing a sequel to that film. He was also set to direct the fifth Avengers movie when it was going to be THE KANG DYNASTY. Pivoting away from Kang caused a lot of changes in Marvel's planned storyline, but Cretton stuck around!

Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, who wrote the previous three Spider-Man movies for Marvel, are returning to script the fourth.

Who's in the Cast of Spider-Man 4?

Tom Holland will be in Spider-Man 4! Sadie Sink of "Stranger Things" has joined the cast as well, but we don't know anything about her role. It's reasonable to expect that Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, and Tony Revolori might all recur as well. But right now we don't know!

Rumors say that Robert Downey, Jr. might appear as Doom, which would bookend Downey's prominent roles in previous Spider-Man movies, as Iron Man. But nothing is confirmed right now. There are many other rumors flying, too. Some are more credible than others but nothing is confirmed.
