Anime movies have been extremely popular for years, and Western fandom for anime continues to grow. Anime influences countless creators in the US. Huge fan interest means that more and more anime movies are playing in US movie theaters — and a lot more quickly, following their Japanese premieres, than they used to. Thanks to distributors like GKids, the Studio Ghibli movies and other classics regularly come back to the big screen, too.
This year we got things going with the release of THE COLORS WITHIN, from animation studio Science SARU, and we've got ATTACK ON TITAN: THE MOVIE: THE LAST ATTACK and Anime Expo Cinema Nights programming such as VAMPIRE HUNTER D. Anime Movies Coming to Movie Theatres in 2025
The following movies are set for U.S. release (or, in some cases, re-release) in the beginning of 2025.
AXCN 2025: Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (Subbed)
Anime Expo Cinema Nights presents COWBOY BEBOP: THE MOVIE. Caught up in a world of dreams, lost in the cruelty of reality. What should have been an easy bounty turns into biological war after a terrorist gets hold of a deadly virus. Drawn in by the pretty price on the mastermind's head, Spike and the Bebop crew are ready to collect a much-needed reward. Unfortunately, the gang's about to find themselves in more trouble than money when the terrorist threatens to unleash the virus on Halloween--effectively killing everyone on Mars. With little time and leads that seem more dreamy than helpful, they'll have to use their own bag of tricks to stop a dangerous plot. [Subtitled on February 5 and 9; Dubbed on February 6]
Attack on Titan the Movie: THE LAST ATTACK
The story is famously set in a world where humanity has lived behind the massive walls built to protect themselves from the threat of monstrous creatures called Titans. But their century of peace is shattered by an attack on their city that left a young child, Eren Yeager, motherless and vowing revenge on the titans. Years after joining the Survey Corps, Eren finds himself facing a deadly foe, and ultimately gains a special ability that unveils a new truth about his world. [February 10]
AXCN: Gundam Fest 2025: Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack 
Amuro Ray and Char Aznable settle their rivalry once and for all during the Second Neo Zeon War. [March 12 and 16]
AXCN: Vampire Hunter D 40th Anniversary
Anime Expo Cinema Nights Presents special 40th anniversary screenings of the cult classic Vampire Hunter D. In the year 12,090 AD, technology and the supernatural have overtaken the world, leaving the land desolate and despotic. The remnants of humanity are scattered into small communities and live in fear of vampires who compose the ruling Nobility. When Count Magnus Lee tastes the blood of Doris Lang, she is forcibly chosen to be his next wife. In an effort to escape her ill-gotten fate, she hires a mysterious vampire hunter known only as D, who comes from a peculiar lineage. [April 9, 10, and 13]
Liz and the Blue Bird
Students and best friends Mizore Yoroizuka and Nozomi Kasaki prepare to play a complex musical duet, "Liz and the Blue Bird", for oboe and flute. Though they became teammates in their middle school brass band and have played beautifully together ever since, Mizore and Nozomi find that with graduation from high school looming and the duet proving difficult, their friendship begins to buckle under the pressure. Interspersed with the story is the fantasy tale of Liz, drawn like a storybook, contrasting with the crisp realism of the school. These two distinct styles weave with stirring music to tell a touching coming-of-age story. [Release Date TBA]
