Sonic the Hedgehog is back in movie theatres, in SONIC 2! If the friendly, furry blue speedster (Ben Schwartz) was kind of a kid in the first movie, the sequel finds him in adolescent mode. To make things more difficult, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) is back, and he's joined by the antagonistic Knuckles (Idris Elba). Fortunately, Sonic has a new friend, too: The golden-hued Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) is around to help.
In a pre-release interview, co-star James Marsden explained to us that
"The first movie was Sonic trying to find a home and a place on Earth… in this movie you find that Sonic is living at home with Tom and Maddie, and the dynamic between Tom and Sonic has become more of a father/son dynamic."
James Marsden was a gamer as a kid, but missed the Sonic revolution the first time. "I spent so many hours and days and years it feels like playing video games growing up," he said, "and then I moved from Oklahoma to LA to be an actor right around when Sonic was hitting the scene. I began to get more focused on work and having a career, and I had to force myself to put the game consoles away. I was admittedly surprised at how massive the fanbase is."
