After the huge success of Sony's 2018 movie, VENOM, it was clear that we would see more of the toothy black Spider-Man villain as a leading character. Tom Hardy said he had a three-movie contract with the studio. Now the next movie in the series — and a likely conclusion of Hardy's VENOM trilogy — is on the way.
We're waiting for new photos and a trailer, but until those arrive here's everything you need to know about VENOM: THE LAST DANCE.
What's the Venom 3 Release Date?
VENOM 3, now called VENOM: THE LAST DANCE, has a release date of October 25, 2024. The date has moved a couple times, most recently because of production delays related to the SAG-AFTRA strike. But with that strike settled the movie has resumed production and will be ready for October.
Is There a Venom 3 Trailer?
No official footage from VENOM 3 is publicly available at this time. There are many, many fan-made trailers on YouTube, but none feature any new footage.
What's the Plot of Venom: The Last Dance?
Right now, we know almost nothing about the plot of VENOM 3. We do know that LET THERE BE CARNAGE screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who also worked on Tom Hardy's early breakthrough movie BRONSON, and who wrote SAVING MR. BANKS and FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, worked out the new story with Hardy. They went on to write the script together as well. But they have released no specific details about the story in the new Venom sequel.
In addition to writing the script, Kelly Marcel is making her directorial debut on the movie.
Will Tom Holland Be in Venom: The Last Dance?
While we do not have a definitive answer, the chances are that Tom Holland will not appear in VENOM: THE LAST DANCE. Holland will almost certainly play Spider-Man again in at least one more movie, but it isn't likely to be in one of Sony's Spider-Verse movies.
Is Venom 3 Part of the MCU?
Probably not, though there's a good reason for the question. (Spoilers ahead for the end of VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE and SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME as well.) At the end of the second VENOM movie, Eddie Brock and Venom have moved out to an island where they can hopefully live in peace. But they're transported away to another dimension, which is quickly revealed as the MCU.
We learn that spells cast in NO WAY HOME brought Brock and Venom to the MCU. At the end of NO WAY HOME, another spell sends them back to their own universe — with a bit of the symbiote seemingly left behind. So the Tom Hardy version of Eddie Brock was briefly in the MCU, but has since returned home. Or that's how it seems at this point.
Promoting LET THERE BE CARNAGE, Tom Hardy talked about bringing his version of Eddie fully into the MCU. “We will always [be] looking to campaign to play with that with all the brothers and sisters who are out there, do you know what I mean? Whether we can connect the dots, that's up to the constellations, and that's above my pay grade, but we would be remiss not to think about that when we're working on the material.”
Around the same time, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige said, "the minute Sony made their Venom movie and it worked as well as it did, and Tom Hardy became as iconic as he has become as Venom, then the obvious question is then, 'How do we start to merge them?'"
So maybe we'll see a proper crossover — but as to when, we don't know.
Will Any Version of Spider-Man Appear in Venom 3?
Right now we don't know if any version of Spider-Man will show up in VENOM 3. In the past we would have said "definitely not," but MADAME WEB could change things. There are three (or perhaps more) Spider-Women in that movie. We don't know if it takes place in the same world as VENOM or in its own unique place.
So after MADAME WEB opens in February we might have a better answer about Spider-Man and VENOM 3.
Who's in the Cast of Venom 3?
As with the story, we know very little about the cast of VENOM 3. Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock and Brock's symbiotic partner, Venom.
Juno Temple also has an unknown role which has been said to be a leading role. And Chiwetel Ejiofor is in the cast as well, but we don't know about his role, either.
VENOM: THE LAST DANCE will open on October 25.
