All the New Disney Movies to See in Movie Theatres

8/5/2021 • 5 min read

(Updated 02/08/2024)

There's a Disney movie for every audience. With Pixar, Marvel Studios, and the films coming out of Disney's live-action and animated divisions, Walt Disney's enduring studio has the world of entertainment covered.

Disney's new movie slate features a new original Pixar movie, a Pixar sequel, a surprise sequel from Walt Disney Animation, and several long-awaited Marvel Studios movies. There will be more to announce for 2024 and 2025, too, as Disney and Marvel have some dates claimed for as-yet-untitled movies. Here are all the new Disney movies coming out in 2024 and into the future.

Inside Out 2

The Oscar-winning 2015 movie INSIDE OUT introduced Riley, a pre-teen girl, and, more importantly, her major emotions. In INSIDE OUT 2, we'll go back into Riley's head and heart where Joy (Amy Poehler) still resides. But since we expect this sequel to pick up in Riley's teen years, her other emotions might be a more rag-tag — and far more explosive — bunch than previously encountered. Kelsey Mann directs from a script by Meg LeFauve. [June 14, 2024]

Deadpool 3

Ryan Reynolds returns as Deadpool in what is likely to be Marvel's first R-rated movie. And Hugh Jackman reprises the role of Wolverine one more time, though we don't know precisely how he fits into the story. Shawn Levy directs from a script by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin, and Wendy Molyneux. [July 26, 2024]

Moana 2

We don't know much about the animated MOANA 2 yet, as it was a surprise announcement on Disney's February 2024 earnings call. Reporting says that a planned Moana streaming series evolved into this movie, but we don't have any real details. We do, however, have a release date! [November 27, 2024]

Mufasa: The Lion King

Barry Jenkins (MOONLIGHT) is directing this combo prequel and sequel to Jon Favreau's CG-animated version of THE LION KING. The story will examine both Mufasa's origins and the character's path following the previous movie. (And it is not a remake of THE LION KING II: SIMBA'S PRIDE.) Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. voice Mufasa and Scar, while Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani reprise their roles as Pumbaa, Timon, and Rafiki. [December 20, 2024]

Captain America: Brave New World

Following the events of "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has become Captain America. But what does that mean for his life, and the world? [February 14, 2025]

Snow White

This live-action SNOW WHITE remakes Disney's animated original — which was the studio's first feature film and the first animated feature film ever produced. Rachel Zegler (WEST SIDE STORY) stars in the title role, while Gal Gadot (WONDER WOMAN) plays the cruel Queen who is afraid of being upstaged by Snow White. Marc Webb (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) directs. [March 21, 2025]

Fantastic Four

Marvel's First Family comes to the big screen, now as an official part of the MCU. The cast and even the filmmaker are yet to be revealed, but we expect that Reed Richards and the rest of the FF will become key players in Marvel's movies going forward. [May 2, 2025]

Elio

After ELEMENTAL, Pixar's next movie is ELIO, which arrives early in 2024. Elio is a boy who finds himself transported across the galaxy, only to be mistaken for the intergalactic Ambassador for our planet Earth. Yonas Kibreab ("Obi-Won Kenobi") voices Elio, while America Ferrera voices his mother, Olga. COCO co-director and writer Adrian Molina is behind ELIO. [June 13, 2025]

Moana

The live-action remake of the Walt Disney Animation hit movie will once again feature The Rock in one of the two leading roles. And, yes, this is different from the animated MOANA 2, above. [June 27, 2025]

Thunderbolts

Think of this movie like Marvel's own SUICIDE SQUAD as villain characters take on a government mission. But that's likely just the beginning of the movie that will end Marvel's Phase Five. [July 25, 2025]

Blade

Marvel's vampire-fighting swordsman, himself part vampire, is reborn. Mahershala Ali plays Blade in the new movie directed by Yann Demange ('71). [November 7, 2025]

Zootopia 2

The animated sequel to the 2016 hit movie. Details are thin right now, but we'll expect to learn more later this year. [November 26, 2025]

Avengers 5

Originally this fifth Avengers movie was planned to revolve around Kang the Conquerer, the villain in QUANTUMANIA. But as Jonathan Majors has been let go from Marvel, expect a significant reworking — starting with a new title. [May 1, 2026]

The Mandalorian & Grogu

In 2023, Disney and Lucasfilm set dates for three new STAR WARS movies, details of which you can find below. In early 2024, THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU was announced with Jon Favreau directing and the core characters from "The Mandalorian" streaming series flying on to the big screen. Right now it seems like this one is likely to hit the first date set by Lucasfilm, in May 2026, but keep in mind that any dates for new STAR WARS movies remain tentative assumptions until fully confirmed by Lucasfilm and Disney. [May 22, 2026]

Untitled Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Star Wars Movie

The first of three new STAR WARS movies announced in 2023 is expected to be the one directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Rey features as the main character in a story expected to pick up after the events of THE RISE OF SKYWALKER. This looks likely to land on the second date set by Lucasfilm last year but that is not yet confirmed by Lucasfilm. [December 18, 2026]

Frozen III

The same Disney earnings call that featured the surprise announcement of MOANA 2 also saw Bob Iger promising that the next FROZEN movie is on track for a 2026 release. [2026 Release Date TBA]

Toy Story 5

As with FROZEN III, all we know is that Disney CEO Bob Iger promised a new TOY STORY in 2026. [2026 Release Date TBA]

Avengers: Secret Wars

The end of Marvel's long Multiverse Saga takes place in this movie which, we expect, will close off much of the multiverse. [May 7, 2027]

Untitled James Mangold Star Wars Movie

The second of three new STAR WARS movies announced in 2023 is James Mangold's movie set far back at the dawn of the Jedi order. Lucasfilm has planted a flag on December 17, 2027 and that could be the release date for this movie, but nothing is confirmed as yet. [Release Date TBA]

Untitled Dave Filoni Star Wars Movie

The third of three new STAR WARS movies announced in 2023 is likely to be Dave Filoni's movie which will feature characters from "The Mandalorian" and some of the other STAR WARS streaming series. [Release Date TBA]

Hercules

Guy Ritchie (ALADDIN) directs a live-action musical inspired by the Walt Disney Animation movie of the same name. This isn't a remake; more like a new story with ties to the old. AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and ENDGAME directors Anthony and Joe Russo produce. [Release Date TBA]
